« Academics have often chosen among using the elite discourse to analyze/advise a community cause, initiating at-risk students into that discourse (whether it is computer literacy, math literacy ; or standard written English), or, more recently, resisting and critiquing that discourse. Hard-pressed communities look for help where they can find it but remain wary of the process and wisely skeptical about the effectiveness of much of what they get. The rarer achievement is a relationship in which all of these partners work in the same room and on the written page together. »
